Ford Fiesta : driver`s door lock fix

EN

Hi there,

In one of this days I drop on to small problem with one fiesta. To be more specific year 2001, driver`s door.

The problem: if you keep the central lock fuse on place door motors run into lock..unlock..lock..unlock mode without stopping. As additional bonus lock barrel do not rotate smooth on both sides. Doh! What I have done? Here:

Take first door trim. For that purpose remove:

- mirror control panel. One cap, under it screw

- door open handle place. There is cap and screw. Removing it screw, you then can pull slightly that small fascia which keep the speaker.

- remove two more caps, one in the small pocket-handle used to close the door and one at the upper side of the items compartment pocket.

After all of them removed, start pulling gently the trim from the door hinge side. When released, pull straight up.

When unplug the motor and all seems to come on place. Then, I remove the lock unit and try it how it goes by hand. Smooth, no problem. Plug back the cable and try it again. Seems all work.

Is that the solution - No. Here is why. First I open the plastic box in which is situated the lock motor. Keep in mind that it is with some silicon between close surfaces so pull carefully. Inside is the LOCK/UNLOCK signal connector-switch. Check also just in case the both diodes. Had to add new grease compound and check for wear. Then refit the cover.

The real problem was that plastic element on the back of the lock barrel and barrel itself:

Due the fact is plastic, the key slots that metal barrel use to move it get such a gap which prevent the small leaver to make full movement as it should be. The next thing is the barrel. Spray it with WD40 and then with bike oil help me to make it spin both ways as should be. To reduce the slots gap I use liquid metal. Or what ever the name was of that compound stick that you smash for while and then form. Or in case you have little extra time and 3D printer you can easy make new one.

So that was it. Small mechanical problem, bring kind of big issue. Good luck!
