KIA Soul - front breaks replacement

EN

That is not so much different than any other car to work on. Few bolts, some spare time and joy to do some repair work with your hands..

Will advice you to use tripod holder and not to trust the hydraulic jack only.

For the job must have 14mm and 17mm socket bits, 17mm spanner, some torque wrench(es), break piston recovery tool and maybe if you wish some tube, keys and DOT4/5 liquid to bleed the breaks..

Just in advance to mention that the socket bits must be exactly hexagon. All that crappy round corners 12 corners can damage the bolts.

- lift the car

- remove the wheel (in my case with Milwaukee M18 battery buster was quite easy)

- then remove the break pad`s hub bolts: 14mm socket. If need keep opposite break force with the 17mm spanner on the inner guide nut.

- remove the main bracket that keep the pads (only if plan to remove the disks also)

- remove the disk two bolts

- remove the disk..

with metal brush, clean well the wheel hub. That is important, for the purpose of fitting the new disk well. If the rust or extra particles are there, then is possible the disk to spin like infinity symbol and create vibration.

When fitting the new disk you can apply some copper grease to that small bolts that keep the disk on place. And tight them just a little. No need of force at all.

Then, at least in my case after fitting the metal bracket that keep the pads, I discover that the pads do not fit easy in the channels so for that purpose I use angle grinder to remove little from the corners and made it fit and move easy but not loose.

The big 17mm bolts what keep the pad`s frame must be tight with 90-98Nm, I set mine to 100. The small ones on the guides must be tight with 25-30Nm.

After that info, the piston must be returned. Use special tool helped:

Remember before that to open break tank`s cap.

If need or wish - can bleed the hub. Job done. Remember to test, if the wheel rotate free after applying few test pushes over the break pedal. Cap must be closed!
