Mercedes C200 - wiper stalk issue
EN
There are many articles and video about that Mercedes stalk issue, but here is my 5 cent on that topic.
Friend of mine own that kind of german machine and get into same trouble:
- wipers stop work on normal request command adjusted from the stalk, only by watering the windshield create some burst and stop
- indicator switch start to refuse to switch or to disengage after been switched
Well, you need new one or really good old and go ahead:
- first: the airbag must be removed
turn the steering wheel 90° from the position on the picture and loose that two bolts from behind that keep the airbag on place. You need TORX T27
- second: move again the steering to horizontal position and remove the negative cable from the battery. Wait few minutes to be discharged the static and go ahead.
- third: now , the airbag removed (gently pull the plastic lockers) need to get the steering wheel out. That is.. hard one. The bolt is quite tight and with anti lock glue. In my case the “gun” took in a snap of fingers..
Pay attention of the steering wheel markers and the marker on the column. It MUST go exactly the same place.
- forth: now is the real crap. You need to remove the coil cable. Unscrew the three white bolts. Lock the hole with that red locker pin which arrive with the set. And now, really careful with screw driver or plastic craw bar pull the ring
- fifth: now pull toward you the cruise control stalk and the ring will com with it:
- sixth: unbolt (totally remove the bolt) that hold the last stalk unit and remove it by pulling and undone locker pin on top
- seventh: from the back side there are few small bolts to remove:
And finally you get.. to see some of the problems..:
Refitting is on back way. Remember, that the spring coil have marker (triangle) that must be on top and there is spinning plastic ring on the cruise control unit that have two slots: big ans small. Both must be the same position as the spring cable “horns” on the back side. When you get it out, you`ll get what I talk about.
Keep in mind also, that the spring cable unit come out with one long connector leg, so pleas do not try to rotate it and when refit it push carefully. It lock little strange, but first both connectors on the rid side must be positioned well so the pins goes smooth. Not a rocket science, just use caution. And good luck!
